Angioplasty patient pays it forward
An angiogram in October 2021 revealed why Virgilio Rom was experiencing intermittent chest pain and shortness of breath. Diagnosed with one-vessel coronary artery disease, or a buildup of plaque in the arteries, the bookkeeper of a construction company worried about where he was going to get half a million pesos to cover the costly treatment. Wife Memia’s prayers were answered when a co-worker suggested she approach the Tzu Chi Foundation. Through Tzu Chi’s generosity and the expertise of interventional cardiologist Dr. Kent Tan, Rom underwent a success angioplasty at the Chinese General Hospital on November 26, 2021. Today, he is not only back at work, he is contributing whatever he can to ensure others receive the same life-saving procedure he did.
