Tzu Chi Palo’s 6th Humanity Class focuses on Fire Prevention and Safety
By Roxanne Dayata
In an effort to fortify community resilience, Tzu Chi Palo recently conducted its sixth Humanity Class on March 24 at the Great Love Hall Palo, Leyte. The class, which focused on disaster preparedness, served as a testament to its unwavering commitment to holistic education and community empowerment.
Tzu Chi Palo invited speakers from the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) Palo to impart invaluable knowledge and insights on fire prevention and safety.
The collaboration between Tzu Chi and BFP underscored a shared dedication to safeguarding lives and property, particularly in the face of potential disasters.
The session commenced with a comprehensive fire safety lecture by FO1 Rainier Cyril Pelingon. Drawing upon his expertise and frontline experience, the fire officer discussed the essential guidelines and protocols for fire prevention, early detection, and effective response strategies.
Emphasizing the importance of proactive measures, Pelingon highlighted key principles such as fire hazard identification, proper handling of flammable materials, and the significance of maintaining functional fire safety equipment.
Following the informative lecture, Tzu Chi scholars and Great Love villagers put theory into practice through a fire drill conducted under the guidance of BFP officers FO3 Marrion Jeordan Pedrosa, FO1 Leigh Aljon Co, and Pelingon. The drill simulated a fire emergency scenario, including evacuation routes and fire extinguisher usage, allowing attendees to gain hands-on experience and confidence in responding to emergencies.
Beyond imparting practical skills, the Humanity Class fostered a sense of community cohesion and solidarity. The collaborative spirit forged during the session bodes well for future efforts in disaster preparedness and response within the Tzu Chi Palo community.
Reflecting on the significance of the event, Tzu Chi Palo Coordinator Randy Militante expressed his gratitude to BFP Palo for its invaluable partnership and emphasized the impact of education in building resilient communities. He said, "Our sixth Humanity Class epitomizes Tzu Chi's holistic approach to education, which extends beyond academic knowledge to encompass practical skills and compassionate values. We equip our community with the tools and mindset necessary to navigate adversity and disaster preparedness.”
At the close of Tzu Chi Palo's first Humanity Class on disaster preparedness, the spirit of collaboration and empowerment reverberated throughout the community. Armed with newfound knowledge and a strengthened sense of unity, Tzu Chi scholars and villagers ended the day with a renewed commitment to prioritize safety and resilience in their daily lives.
