Preschoolers mark their first-ever LRT ride
By Arvin Yanga
Twelve nursery kids from Tzu Chi Great Love Preschool Philippines experienced their first Light Rail Transit (LRT) ride on March 7, as part of the school’s experiential learning activity designed to develop their social awareness.
They traveled from Santolan Station to Antipolo Station and went on a special tour of the Light Rail Transit Authority (LRTA) Line 2 Depot in Santolan, Pasig, where they learned about train operations and maintenance facilities.
The activity aligned with the school’s ongoing lessons about different modes of transportation and was meticulously planned with safety as the top priority. Each little boy and girl was accompanied by one parent or guardian, and they received special assistance from LRTA management who provided guides and security personnel throughout the journey.
Prior to the trip, preschool teachers prepared the kids by discussing safety protocols such as holding an adult’s hand at all times and strictly “walking feet only,” their term for no running.
“The children arrived 30 minutes before the scheduled departure time with big smiles on their faces. They had been counting down the days,” shared Tzu Chi Great Love Preschool Philippines Directress Jane Sy, noting how excited the kids were for the activity.
This marked the second major experiential activity for the preschool, which previously organized a tricycle ride at BTCC last school year as part of its commitment to exposing young learners to diverse transportation experiences.
