Tzu Chi Youth “Pledge to Plant”
63 Tzu Chi Youth (TCY)—42 from the Philippines and 21 from Taiwan—participated in “Pledge to Plant,” a tree-planting initiative organized on August 11 at the UP Laguna-Quezon Land Grant (LQLG) in Siniloan, Laguna. The project that aligns with Dharma Master Cheng Yen’s call to protect the environment saw the planting of varieties endemic to the Sierra Madre Mountain Range: Sampaloc, Marang, Balitbitan, Kupang, and Diptero.
Despite the long walk on a muddy path, TCY made it a fun and memorable experience, singing and dancing along the way. Quips TCY Philippines volunteer Miaolin Li, “There’s no Wi-Fi in the forest, but you’ll make better connections there.”
