Tzu Chi Hosts Historical Photo Gallery
By Daniel Lazar
During the Fiesta Verde celebration, which took place on Nov 5th and 6th at the Buddhist Tzu Chi Campus, The Tzu Chi Foundation also hosted an open photo gallery showcasing images from its 28 years in the Philippines. The images feature precious, emotional moments of joy, happiness, and drama, captured from past relief and disaster operations, as well as various events.
The Communications team curated the photos from Tzu Chi’s archive, and current and past photographers, to show viewers some of the more significant moments in the history of Tzu Chi. “Each photo chosen is meant to elicit an emotional response, and provide people with an insight into the work of the Tzu Chi Foundation,” explained Videographer, Matt Serrano.
Visitors to the gallery included Tzu Chi volunteers, many of whom were featured in some of the photos. As they browsed, they happily pointed themselves out in the photos to their relatives and friends. One of the visitors to the gallery, Wesley Chua, was happy to see the photo of his mother, Commissioner Dorothy Chua, displayed; “it’s a great photo, and it captures the joy and happiness she feels when she is with Tzu Chi,” he noted.
Another piece of Tzu Chi history on display was a 10 meter scroll chronicling the inception of The Tzu Chi Foundation in 1966, by Dharma Master Cheng Yen, followed by all major Tzu Chi events and milestones to 2019. Commissioner Judy Lao, discussed its significance; “Tzu Chi Philippines was gifted this scroll by Dharma Master Cheng Yen, to mark Tzu Chi’s 25th anniversary in the Philippines. It is exquisitely crafted and details everything Tzu Chi has accomplished for the past 53 years.”
For 28 years The Tzu Chi Foundation Philippines has been helping Filipinos recover from natural disasters, and is continually helping alleviate poverty throughout the country. Tzu Chi Dharma Master Cheng Yen believes that everyone deserves to live a full and happy life, and she has made it her mission to ensure that this mantra becomes a reality.
