No casualties or major damages were reported in Tzu Chi’s Bicol and Ormoc villages.

Having experienced the wrath of Super Typhoon Yolanda (Haiyan) in 2013, Leyteños moved quickly with the coming of Super Typhoon Odette (Rai) on December 16, 2021. In Ormoc Tzu Chi Great Love Village, residents were brought to an evacuation center where local government provided collapsible tents and volunteers cooked and fed them warm porridge. Sets of clothes were also distributed to evacuees who didn’t have enough time to bring personal belongings with them.

Though Tropical Storm Rai has turned into a moderate typhoon, yet in Ormoc, there is still ongoing rain. Tzu Chi volunteers collaborated with the government, evacuating locals while providing them with hot food and secondhand clothing.

In Ormoc, Philippines, Tzu Chi volunteers hosted a free eye clinic to remove cataracts for patients in need. A young volunteer, who had received caregiver's training in Taiwan, was finally able to contribute in her hometown.

In the Philippines, the government has announced that schools will open on the 13th of September. A senior high school in Ormoc has invited Tzu Chi volunteers and Tzu Chings to clean the campus before school starts.

In the Philippines, due to pandemic prevention restrictions, Tzu Chi's blessing ceremonies in Ormoc Great Love Village have become small-scaled blessing activities in the communities. For the residents who have been impacted by the pandemic, the blessing activities have given them spiritual support.

After Typhoon Haiyan in 2013, Tzu Chi Philippines Branch built Daai Village in Ormoc to give the affected residents a place to live. After that, the volunteers opened various vocational training courses to help the villagers learn skills to support their families. The handicraft class was set up in February last year.

In the Philippines, Tzu Chings and volunteers have prepared vegetable soup to be distributed to the villagers in Ormoc Great Love Village which was in conjunction with the World Vegetarian Awareness Day.

On February 24, 2018 Tzu Chi Foundation distributed the second wave of cash assistance for the families affected by Tropical Storm Urduja at the Great Love City in Barangay Lilo-an, Ormoc. The distribution benefitted 532 families.

Seven months after a 6.5-magnitude struck Leyte, about 100 families from Barangay Lake Danao in Ormoc City are still staying in makeshift tents. After hearing news about the dire living condition of the residents, Tzu Chi Foundation is eyeing to put up prefabricated temporary shelters for them.
