Hope and Courage Beyond the Typhoon

After Typhoon Tino devastated Negros Island, Tzu Chi volunteers reached 1,927 families in Bacolod, Bago, La Carlota, and Canlaon with grocery vouchers, basic necessities, and financial assistance. Amid the mud, debris, and heartbreaking loss, families like Sarah Jane Diaz’s and the Noble family’s are finding the strength to rebuild their lives— carrying hope, faith, and love forward. Their journey is a testament of courage, faith, and resilience in the face of storm left scars not only on the island of Negros but deep within the hearts of its people.

From December 14 to 16, Tzu Chi volunteers visited four areas across Negros Island to provide relief to families affected by three consecutive typhoons—Tino (Kalmaegi), Uwan (Fung-Wong), and Verbena (Koto). Nearly 2,000 families received assistance tailored to each area’s accessibility, including groceries, rice, grocery gift checks, and construction material vouchers to support their recovery, bringing timely relief ahead of the holiday season, in collaboration with the Philippine Chinese Chamber of Commerce and Industry (PCCCI).
