It was an afternoon of reminiscing and reconnecting when 76 scholars from 2007 to 2024 met at the Tzu Chi Scholars’ Alumni Homecoming on September 22 at the Jing Si Hall of Buddhist Tzu Chi Campus in Sta. Mesa, Manila. Apart from getting to know one another through games and sharing, the scholars renewed their commitment to the foundation by taking up the invitation to serve as facilitators of scholars’ monthly Humanity classes.

Scholars from 2007 onward recommitted themselves to the foundation and its missions.

Tzu Chi volunteers distributed rice, essentials in three areas.

On September 14, Tzu Chi volunteers organized a large-scale relief for over 1,000 affected families of San Jose, Antipolo, following the massive floods caused by Typhoon Enteng (Yagi), a storm that left at least 20 dead. Breaking into three groups, volunteers distributed rice and essentials to beneficiaries in seven sitios. “This is the second week [after Enteng] and almost every day we’ve been receiving help,” says San Jose Barangay Captain Montero Azur Tolentino. “Your help is one of the biggest we’ve received. Thank you, Tzu Chi.”

After passing preliminary screenings and a panel interview, 69 new Tzu Chi scholars for NCR were welcomed to the Tzu Chi Foundation in a simple ceremony held on September 8 at the Buddhist Tzu Chi Campus in Sta. Mesa, Manila. Besides the quality education and generous allowances granted to scholars, a Tzu Chi scholarship inculcates values and Tzu Chi’s unique culture through monthly Humanity classes.

2,863 families were given relief packages to aid their recovery from Typhoon Carina.
