Tzu Chi conducts ocular in quake-hit Cebu

Five days after a powerful earthquake rocked Cebu on the evening of September 30, a team of Tzu Chi volunteers flew to the province to survey the extent of damages caused by the magnitude 6.9 tremblor and its impact on communities. Many, like Gemma Carreon, Ernesto Pepito, and Gina Beliegas lost their homes and are now seeking temporary shelter in evacuation centers or makeshift tents set up at the side of the road. While relief in the form of food, potable water, medicine, hygiene kits, and blankets was distributed to 350 families in the hard-hit Municipality of San Remigio, residents are in great need of construction materials to rebuild their homes that have been reduced to rubble.
