Through the cash-for-work program, residents of the Great Love City in Barangay Liloan, Ormoc have been hopeful of restarting their lives after the devastation of Typhoon Urduja (Kai-Tak) in the Eastern Visayas region. Cash-for-work participants worked hard to clean their houses and their village and have used the money they earned to help themselves recover from the storm.
At a young age, nine-year-old Angel Carlyn Jandoc has manifested the true beauty of helping other people. Inspired by the sacrifices of her father and the efforts of Tzu Chi, Angel collected donations by singing Christmas carol with her sisters and cousins in their neighborhood. Residents of Ormoc Great Love City were delighted and proud of Angel's actions of giving back to Tzu chi who extended help for them after the storm.
A day after receiving the distributions, the villagers purchase new furniture and appliances to replace those destroyed in the flood while others used the cash aid as capital fund to recover their livelihood. The villagers are filled with gratefulness as they begin their lives anew through the love and help of Master Cheng Yen and Tzu Chi Foundation.
On November 30, Tzu Chi Foundation in cooperation with the municipal government of San Mateo, Rizal held its 229th Medical Mission which provided free medical services to 2,184 patients across the departments of pediatrics, general medicine, ophthalmology, dentistry, minor surgery, ENT (ears, nose, and throat), and Traditional Chinese Medicine. Aside from the free medical services, the event also became an opportunity for Tzu Chi volunteers to urge people to share their blessings with others and help other people, especially those who are suffering.
The devastation of Tropical Storm Urduja (Kai-Tak) in Ormoc City left San Juan Elementary School flooded with mud. Upon seeing the situation, Tzu Chi extended their helping hands to clean the schools with local policemen, school personnel and students by launching a cash-for-work program. A total of 127 cash-for-work participants rendered their service to the school and worked hand in hand with Tzu Chi volunteers and other local volunteers to prepare the school for the resumption of classes on January 3, 2018.
Tzu Chi Foundation distributed cash aid, eco-friendly blankets, and bags of used clothes to the flood victims at the Great Love City in Barangay Liloan, Ormoc. Among the beneficiaries is the family of a 22-year-old man who drowned while trying to save his neighbors during the flood.
On December 23, Tzu Chi volunteers distributed cash, blankets, and clothes to the victims of Typhoon Urduja (Kai-Tak) in Ormoc Tzu Chi Great Love City. Dharma Master Cheng Yen also sent a letter for the victims and reminded them to always be prepared for disasters and be vigilant about climate change. Just two days before Christmas, the relief aid from Tzu Chi became a valuable welcome gift for the hopeful villagers.
Members of the Ormoc Tzu Chi Youth Group generate to clean the home of their elderly neighbors at Tzu Chi Great Love City. They are also affected by Tropical Storm Urduja but that does not hinder them on showing their love and compassion by lending a helping hand to the needy.
After weeks of staying in different evacuation centers, the typhoon victims return to their homes at Great Love City. Tzu Chi launched a cash-for-work program to hasten the cleanup efforts and prevent the spread of diseases. Tzu Chi volunteers were there to help and assist the villagers as they bring their homes back to their normal state.
Tzu Chi was built on funds collected in a bamboo coin bank. The foundation’s humble beginnings is a reminder that no contribution is too small to create a great impact. Every peso you donate will make a difference. Just the amount you spend on a cup of coffee will go a long way.
