Tzu Chi Foundation, Philippines Summary of Habagat 2012 Relief Operations

Date Details
August 6 *Continuous rains brought by Habagat 2012 submerged Metro Manila and other nearby provinces
August 7 *Tzu Chi Foundation started its hot meals relief by giving 246 bread and 500 hot meals to residents of barangays Old Balara and Sto. Domingo, Quezon City.
August 8 *Tzu Chi, Philippines started its relief efforts in 9 evacuation centers of Marikina, and Quezon City, by distributing a total of 17,267 pieces of breads and 3,300 bowls of hot meals to flood victims.
August 9 *505 relief packs were given to flood victims of Barangay Tatalon.
*Cleanup operation was organized in said barangay.
* Tzu Chi volunteers distributed 356 relief packs to flood victims in San Juan City.
*While 2,628 hot meals were distributed to residents of Pasig City and Manila.
August 10-11 *Cash-for-work program was initiated in G. Araneta Ave. of Barangay Tatalon, Quezon City to clean up trash and mud left behind by the flood. Each of the participants was paid P400.
*Relief distribution to flood victims of Barangay Ampid, and Guitnang Bayan in San Mateo, Rizal benefitting 6,748 residents.
*Cash-for-work cleanup in barangays Tatalon and Sto. Domingo, Quezon City continued, benefiting total of 1,072 residents; while cash-for-work program in Marikina City is initiated simultaneously.
August 10-16 *Cash-for-work program to clean up trash and mud in heavily affected areas of barangays Nangka, Malanday and Tumana, in Marikina City was conducted. 4,261 man-days of cleanup volunteers were mobilized by Tzu Chi in one week; while 9 heavy machineries and 15 dump trucks were deployed by the foundation for 3 days to support the cleanup efforts.
August 12 *Relief distribution in Barangay Old Balara, Quezon City benefitting 1,046 families. Goods include 10 kg rice, mat, blankets, clothes, detergent bars, slippers, eating utensils, etc.
August 14 *Tzu Chi Foundation started cash-for-work cleanup operations in Kasiglahan Village, Rodriguez, Rizal (Phases 1K, 1K1, and 1K2) benefiting 3,074 residents. Each individual were given P400 for their cleanup efforts. Tzu Chi provided T-shirts, shovels, and boots.
August 16 *Cash-for-work cleanup in Kasiglahan Village, Rodriguez, Rizal (Phases 1K, 1K1, and 1K2) 3,509 residents deployed. Concluding cleanup efforts in Phase 1K, and 1K1.
August 17-19 *Cash-for-work cleanup in Kasiglahan Village, Phase 1K2, Rodriguez, Rizal continued. A total of 4,835 man-days of cleanup volunteers were deployed. Each individual were given P400 in each day of cleanup work. While more than 3,500 volunteers, mostly students of Rodriguez, Rizal, supported the cleanup efforts.
August 20 *Tzu Chi volunteers distributed 1,114 relief packs to affected residents of Phase 1K2 of Kasiglahan Village, Rodriguez, Rizal. Goods include instant rice, hygiene kit, eating utensils, bag, mat, blanket, pail, detergent bars, slippers, etc.
August 23-24 *Tzu Chi volunteers prepares 3,000 relief packs to be distributed to families of Phases 1K, 1K1, and 1D in Kasiglahan Village, Rodriguez, Rizal. Goods include instant rice, hygiene kit, eating utensils, bag, mat, blanket, pail, detergent bars, slippers, etc.
August 26 *Relief distribution to Phases 1D, 1K and 1K1 of Kasiglahan Village, Rodriguez, Rizal benefitting 2,542 families.
September 1 *Tzu Chi conducts relief distribution to 3,063 affected residents in Marikina City. Goods include instant rice, hygiene kit, eating utensils, bag, mat, blanket, pail, detergent bars, slippers, clothes, etc.
September 2 *Cash assistances ranging from P2,500 to P5,000, were given by Tzu Chi Foundation to 525 volunteers in Marikina who were heavily affected by floods.
September 3-5 *A three-day food-for-work program was initiated in Banaba Extension, Barangay Banaba, San Mateo, Rizal for sand-bagging operation to rip rap eroding riverbanks. A total of 565 residents were mobilized and bestowed with 20-kilo sack of rice each.
September 6-8 *Tzu Chi conducted another cash-for-work program to cleanup trash and mud left behind by floods in Barangay Banaba, San Mateo, Rizal. A total of 1,758 man-days of cleanup volunteers were mobilized and provided with P400 each daily.
September 8 *321 Tzu Chi volunteers of Marikina crossed-over to Barangay Banaba of San Mateo, to help in their final cleanup operation. Bayanihan spirit among two adjacent communities were awakened, inspiring an atmosphere of great love and gratitude.
*Tzu Chi continues its relief distribution to affected residents in barangays Tatalon and Damayang Lagi of Quezon City, benefiting a total of 509 families.
September 15 *Tzu Chi conducted another relief distribution to 599 affected residents in Marikina City. Goods include hygiene kit, eating utensils, bag, mat, blanket, pail, detergent bars, clothes, etc.
September 28 *396 affected families in Banaba Extension of San Mateo were provided with relief goods. Items include pail, mat, blankets, detergent bars, clothes, eating utensils, hygiene kit, and bag.
*966 families of North and South Libis of San Mateo, Rizal who were affected by floods, were given with 20-kg of rice each.
