Tzu Chi Officers from Metro Manila, Cebu, Leyte, Bohol, and Davao congregated at the Tzu Chi Great Love Campus on May 24-26, 2019 for the 1st National Officers Camp for Tzu Chi Philippines.
Dharma Masters De Man & De Chen of Hualien Jing Si abode represent Tzu Chi founder - Dharma Master Cheng Yen in attending this convention to listen as well as to properly guide officers from different Tzu Chi chapters here in the Philippines on the proper way of conducting Tzu Chi missions.
More than 150 officers from different Tzu Chi chapters in Metro Manila, Cebu, Tacloban, Palo, Bohol and Davao congregated at the Harmony Hall for the 1st National Officers Camp of Tzu Chi Philippines to learn more about the foundation vision & mission as well as sharing some insights on projects in their area of responsibility.
Officers from Cebu, Tacloban, Palo, Ormoc, Bohol, Davao and the four districts of Metro Manila were given the opportunity to report on their different projects in their respective location.
Cebu volunteer Marietta Uy together with Tzu Chi youth and scholars of Cebu was able to help residents of Reuyan Compound in Pulpogan, which is one of the poorest in Cebu, one of their main concern is the lack of food and running water, to quote Marietta’s report: ”Taking a bath is a luxury for them.” Aside from providing the residents with relief on food and water, Cebu liaison office also sent 56 of their youth to college.
Randy Militante of Palo Great Love Village shared their joy of coming up with new product line for their livelihood program. Most of their villagers are survivors of Typhoon Yolanda, but they have been successful with their livelihood program that covers baking, catering, bag making and fruit planting for the past four years. This time, Palo reported on their mushroom cultivation and mushroom chips production which was well accepted by the market both in Tacloban and Manila.
Robert Siy reported on their recycling center’s success in Tatalon, Quezon City. They sourced recyclable goods like second hand appliances and used clothing from donors and sold them at extremely low prices to the residents in Tatalon area since many of them cannot afford to buy new things.
Master De Man reminds everyone to be mindful of their task, she also mentioned Master Cheng Yen concern with all her disciples’ cultivation in this lifetime. “Master Cheng Yen has been asking if there is enough time?” Master De Man said. Aside from these reminders, Master De Man also teach proper Buddhist etiquette to the congregation.
The 1st National Officers Camp was held at Tzu Chi Great Love Campus, which used to be the Sisters of Mary School, reconstruction has been going on for the past 13 months to convert the covered basketball court into an auditorium (Jing Si Hall), the same site was used as a recycling center for some years, with the on-going reconstruction, Master Cheng Yen hope to convert this campus into a Buddhist holy place in the future.
With the presence of the two Jing Si Dharma Masters, construction work was rush to finish the Jing Si Hall in time for the two Dharma Masters to lead the praying of the “Lotus Sutra” for the first time on this venue. Everything was completed in time for more than 160 volunteers to attend this auspicious event which marks the beginning of a new landmark for Tzu Chi Philippines.
